Synopsis for Ibis the Invincible: "The Jonah Curse!"
A man's pulled out of the drink, only survivor of a submarine attack. He's rescued against his wishes, actually, and explains why: while on a trip in the Orient he mocked an obscure god's idol, which came to life and cursed this Jonah with bad luck. His business failed, his family all died, and on his trip back to the States his ship was sunk by a submarine attack. Not long after, Jonah's girlfriend comes to visit Ibis, sobbing that he won't marry her because of his claims of a curse. He agrees to help, and after seeing the lady almost crushed by Jonah's falling chandelier, magically transports himself and Jonah back to the site of the initial incident to see about lifting the curse.
Ibis confronts the idol that laid the curse, saying it's no real god but an evil spirit inhabiting a statue, but it laughs off his bravado saying its curse is still powerful. It also refuses to kill Jonah, since then he'd be free of its curse. Suddenly a Japanese bomber flies overhead and is brought down by the curse too, but one of the pilots survives, and picks up the fallen Ibistick. In giving it to the idol, which is venerated in Japan apparently, the evil spirit seals its own fate. Its command to consume Ibis in fire backfires, as always, destroying the idol, the Japanese airmen and the curse. Jonah joins the navy, and while Ibis congratulates him, he notices the Ibistick shaking and warning him of new supernatural evil at work.
