Synopsis for Ibis the Invincible: "The Duel With Death"
Professor Dean lies on his deathbed, and the secrets of a new miracle drug threaten to die with him, as only his son might be able to understand him to replicate it. His son isn't due to arrive for another three hours, and to ensure Professor Dean will leave that long, Ibis connives to run interference for the Grim Reaper himself for that time! This will be no easy task, as during an earlier encounter, Ibis lost the power to command Death itself.
Using the magic he does have, Ibis summons Death to plead for mercy, but citing the souls he stands to reap if Dean's formula is lost, he refuses. Ibis fails to chain Death, but manages to withstand a full magical assault from him by using a shadow decoy. Death summons a ghostly horseman to catch Taia, having known she was there the whole time, prompting Ibis to challenge Death to a fight of physical strength. By taking on a brutish human form, Death obliges, but Ibis uses some knowledge of martial arts to throw Death around. This battle has delayed him long enough, and though Death departs with Professor Dean's soul, his life-saving process has been successfully passed on.
