Synopsis for Ibis the Invincible: "Isle of Monoliths!"
Explorers on Evos Island see a native tribe at the feet of their giant idols, but are spotted and have to flee. Only man escapes, and dives into the ocean to escape his pursuers. The next morning, Ibis and Taia happen to be sailing nearby and magically bring him safely to their boat. Heading inland to see to the rescue of his comrades, they see the monoliths. Taia remarks they're a lot like Assyrian idols, who were offered blood sacrifices by their worshipers, which prompts the party to hurry on before it's too late.
They find the native village, surrounded by a tall stockade, which puzzles Taia as the natives couldn't have any enemies to repel on such a tiny island. When Ibis magically lowers the captured explorers to the ground, they find out how wrong she is when the giant idols come to life and pursue the interlopers after being denied their sacrifice. The monoliths are ordered to march to the bottom of the sea and stay there for all time, which they loyally do. Taia wonders what brought the statues to life, and Ibis speculates it may have been the inherent malice of all the blood sacrifices that gave the statues a sinister kind of sentience. However in the end he has no real answers, as there are some mysteries beyond the ken even of great wizards.
