Whiz Comics #87 is an issue of the series Whiz Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of July, 1947.

Synopsis for Captain Marvel: "The War of the Gods"

Zanat, member of the warmongering Society of Mars, murders a speaker for peaceful causes, and when Billy calls out his magic word to chase him down, nothing happens. There's trouble in paradise: Zeus dislikes the magic word "Shazam" because it makes it seem like Solomon (who lives on Mount Olympus for plot convenience) is more important than him, the king of the gods. Also for plot convenience, he agrees to throw one last lightning bolt so Captain Marvel can get involved. Cap summons Shazam's ghost to find out what's going on, and comes along to the home of the gods with the old wizard. Zeus, Achilles and Mercury want the placement of their letters changed to reflect their perceived importance, demanding Captain Marvel change by saying "ZAMSHA" from then on. Shazam himself finds this ridiculous, and Zeus and his allies in the spat declare war on the rest of the elders.

The real culprit is the god Mars, who's been spiking the nectar drunk by the gods to make them more warlike. If the gods are at war, Billy can't change to Captain Marvel anymore, and nobody will be around who could stop Mars from sparking the mother of all wars. Unfortunately for him, Billy's currently modelocked as the godly champion, who easily defeats anyone who challenges him because he has all their power plus that of the other five elders. Mars is exiled to Hades for his duplicity, and with harmony restored in the home of the gods, Cap apprehends Zanat when he goes to murder another promoter of peace.
