Synopsis for "Mirage City"

A Mr. Crane returns after being lost in the Gobi Desert, telling stories of a city that appeared like a mirage, where he was enslaved by the locals into helping rebuild. Eventually he managed to escape, but ended up in a mental hospital because of his wild stories about a slave-city in the middle of the desert no-one else knows about. He tells his story to Billy Batson, who looks into these claims for the sake of a man's freedom. To Captain Marvel's surprise, he finds this "Mirage City" himself, except it proves to be all too real. He feigns weakness to let himself be enslaved and find out what's going on. King Smog and his evil regime are regaining the power to rule the entire world, as they once did. Captain Marvel instead inspires the enslaved people to revolution and throws King Smog in his own dungeon. Marvel returns to society to declare that Crane's story is true, and soon Crane's heading back to Mirage City to help it establish relations with the outside world.

Synopsis for Ibis the Invincible: "Versus the Minotaur"

Ibis and Taia are in Spain, watching a masterful bullfight carried out by the celebrated Ramon. Ibis is uneasy, having noticed certain markings on the body of the slain bull that indicate it to belong to the herd of the ancient beast-god, the Minotaur. Taia replies that Theseus killed the beast, but Ibis replies the body was never found in the depths of the labyrinth...

Indeed, that night the Minotaur sneaks in through Ramon's window to avenge his kin. Hearing Ramon's screams of terror, Ibis comes running to his rescue, but is astounded when the Minotaur easily withstands the magic flames conjured by his wand before jumping out the window.

The next day Ramon has another bullfight, but growing suspicious, Ibis magically unmasks it as the Minotaur making another attempt on his enemy's life. Realizing the reason for the impotence of his magic is that he hasn't got the right weapon to slay this beast, Ibis conjures the spirit of Theseus to borrow his sword, and stabs the Minotaur through the heart with it.
