Synopsis for "WildStorm Rising, Chapter 10"

In Nicaragua, Helspont seeks to use the unearthed Kherubim ship to destroy Earth and return to Daemon.  Backlash, Grifter, Deathblow, Mr. Majestic, Savant, Union, and the assembled members of Stormwatch, Wetworks, and the WildC.A.T.s stand ready to stop him.  Helspont orders his Daemonites to attack, and the battle begins.  Spartan breaks off and enters the ship.  Hightower intends to follow, but Grifter ambushes him.  Majestic takes on Helspont himself while Spartan activates the ship’s weapons systems.  Nautika and Sunburst swat him aside and fire the weapons, knocking out Majestic and Helspont. Then, they blast Spartan to slag as Defile, who controls them, arrives.  Outside, the teams defeat the Daemonites, and Grifter kills Hightower. Defile intends to use the ship to conquer Earth, but Sunburst overcomes Defile’s mind control and attacks him.  In response, Defile orders Nautika to kill Sunburst.  Her blast cripples him, and the realization of what she has done breaks her conditioning. The battle has damaged the ship’s power core, and it will soon explode.  Grifter enters and shoots Defile, but he teleports away.   Grifter gets Nautika, Sunburst, and Spartan outside and warns the assembled teams about the power core.  Emp and the WildC.A.T.s volunteer to fly the ship into space.  Before they do, Emp gives Savant full access to Halo in case the team does not return.  Soon, in Earth orbit, Void is about to teleport the team to safety when the ship vanishes in a massive flash of light.  Watching from the ground, the assembled heroes assume the WildC.A.T.s are dead. A week later at Halo, Majestic reveals that Stormwatch has taken custody of Helspont and Spartan’s remains, Hightower and the dead Daemonites were buried in the crater left by the ship, and he and Savant prepare to start anew.
