Synopsis for "In Max We Trust"

Spartan has Void's powers once again. Tao mocks him for his decision to appear as Jack Marlowe again, criticizing him for using his awesome powers to take on a human's name and clothing. As the two engage in battle, the rest of Team 7 and the Wildcats are caught in a backlash of reality distortion which affects them all in various negative ways. Marlowe has the advantage over Tao by knocking him down with a burst of power, causing the others to return to their normal state. But Tao siphons all of Providence's powers and resumes his battle.

As the battle rages, Void informs the others she withheld a little of her power from Spartan in case he needed help but is willing to relinquish all of it if he needs it. But Lynch tells her to hold off on that because he has a plan, in which Void and Providence are willing to participate to stop Tao.

Back in the battle, Tao tries to mess with Marlowe by having representations of himself appear and attack him. Marlowe banishes his duplicates before informing Tao that while Spartan may have lacked confidence, Jack Marlowe does not. Tao continues his manipulations against Marlowe by getting Marlowe to feel guilty over his failure to stop Armageddon. This only infuriates Marlowe and causes him to unleash a burst of energy on Tao. But Tao remains unaffected by Marlowe's attack and he overwhelms his opponent.

Just as Tao mocks Marlowe, Void, while following Lynch's plan, gives the remainder of her power to Providence and Savant teleports Providence behind Tao. She uses her power to hold him, serving herself as a diversion so the Wildcats, Team 7, and Void can escape. Marlowe refuses to leave Providence behind but Void tells him they cannot win this fight and Providence is willing to accept her fate for everyone. Marlowe reluctantly concedes, but not before threatening Tao that he will see him dead.

After Team 7 and the Wildcats teleport away, Tao tells Providence her sacrifice was in vain. He planned to let them go all along so he could follow them. Now that he has all of Providence's power, Tao sees no further need for her. After cruelly telling Providence that she died for nothing, Tao renders her into dust.

The Wildcats and Team 7 escaped to North Dakota. Deathblow and Dane expresses their anger and disappointment with Lynch for using Providence, but Marlowe grudgingly defends his actions since Tao is too powerful for everyone, including Marlowe himself. Everyone then discusses their next move: to find Max Faraday. Jodi asks Marlowe why he cannot use Void's powers to reboot reality like she has previously done before. Void informs her that she was only able to do that with the help of a being from a parallel universe. Marlowe even points out that even if he could do it, Tao has enough power to stop that from happening. Lynch tells Marlowe that with Void's power he can find where Max Faraday is hiding. He mentally feeds Marlowe's mind a series of coordinates, potential locations where Lynch determined Faraday might be hiding. After briefly looking through his mind, Marlowe finds Max's location.

Marlowe teleports everyone to a realm that Max has created to hide in. It is a never-ending ocean side honeymoon where Max, his wife Susannah, his sister Jenny, and his best friend/brother-in-law Devan can live peacefully forever. Max reveals his presence to them and he knows about their intentions to seek him out to undo Armageddon. But Max is unwilling to help them. He explains that during the Number of the Beast incident, Max was unable to stop the Reapers from devastating Earth, and even if he tried Tao would have stopped him. Max is aware Tao is searching for him and knows he will deal with him soon, but he was hoping that someone else would take care of Tao before it came to that.

Christie Blaze steps in and tells everyone that since she's kept alive by the same power that Max has, she knows he did not just stand by and do nothing when Armageddon happened; she realizes now that Max is responsible for causing the "Rapture" in which countless people vanished into light during the catastrophe. Max admits that he had tried to save everyone, but there were still too many people that he could not save. Convinced by Christie that she and the others only want to help, Max teleports them all to the city of St. Louis, where he has kept the billions of people he saved. Meanwhile, Tao observes Max.
