Synopsis for "Tyranny in Minor Keys"

Jack Marlowe is in Beijing to buy a battery making plant, in which he intends to have it only manufacture Halo Batteries and cease its production for other battery companies. Marlowe then makes a call to Edwin Dolby in adding his purchase to Halo's budget and as well informing him about a team of "efficiency experts" streamlining his accounting firm.

On the next day, Dolby, Sam Garfield and their co-workers find their accounting offices emptied as it is being shut down. Dolby realize what Marlowe had meant from last night, much to Garfield's outrage. Dolby and Garfield go to the Halo Corporation where they confront Marlowe about him shutting down their firm. Marlowe tells them that the reason is that their firm, despite its quick, effective decision-making, he had checked from their records that they are unable to manage their own company's finances and would have been bankrupt within three years if he (Marlowe) hadn't bought the firm. Marlowe then commends Dolby and Garfield in assessing Halo's holdings and how they can expand the company's sphere of influence. Dolby, surprisingly, gives some valuable advice to Marlowe in diversifying his holdings through mass media.

Meanwhile, C.C. Rendozzo is traveling to the location of the missing FBI agent in Detroit through a homing signal. Her reasons for finding the agent is revealed in a flashback three years ago, her home was raided by the FBI in which her son was taken by them.

Beneath Detroit, Grifter and Agent Wax have already arrived to where the agent is. The two find a vault and enters inside to find a container which Wax identifies as a relic, a hypothalamic container used to transport a single individual with "special" field capabilities. Wax carefully unlocks the container, but he and Grifter are then found and held at gunpoint by C.C. and her men.
