The metal was given to General Caspar by a friend of his that he worked with, a scientist who was pretty famous back in the day, but who everyone's forgotten about now. A scientist who was a little off his nut from time to time, but a brilliant researcher, theorist, and inventor.

Will Magnus was the creator of the Metal Men.

History

Will Magnus created Responsometers, devices that could change the shape of metals. He was only able to get six to work, corresponding to gold, iron, lead, mercury, platinum, and tin.^[1] He assembled his robots into the superhero team, the Metal Men.^[2] When an aggressive government sought possession of the Metal Men, Doc deactivated them and hid his Responsometers in gifts for his friends.^[3]
