Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace #7 is a chapter in the digital-first series Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace (Volume 1 (Digital)) with a cover date of June, 2020.
Synopsis for "With Friends Like These"
Etta Candy files a report about her latest mission. Wonder Woman had been fighting KGBeast at the Kazansky railway station, in order to create a diversion for A.R.G.U.S. agent Etta Candy so she can grab an EMP bomb intended for sale to terrorists. A day earlier, Etta had informed Diana about KGBeast being hired to protect the sale of the bomb and she's been chosen to protect her while she grabs the briefcase from Luka Volkov, a scientist who was a gambling addict and often sold off government technology to get out of debt. Back in the present time, Etta knocks him over as he runs away before tasering him to unconsciousness.
After Etta sets her automatic lockpick upon the case to open it, KGBeast notices and takes aim at her, however Diana intervenes in time. As the lockpick fails to open the briefcase, Volkov wakes up but is knocked out by Etta using the case. The force of her swing however causes it to open and after viewing the bomb she tries to leave, but gets kidnapped after a terrorist uses chloroform on her. As she wakes up, she hears two terrorist members Irina and Alexei argue over the former not getting recognition for her work, even though she was the one who organized the sale and had KGBeast hired.
Alexei after being told by Irina that Etta has woken up, interrogates her and taunts her stating that she's so unattractive no one wants to look at her. As he demands to be told how A.R.G.U.S. knew about the sale, she refuses to speak and leans in close while mocking what kind of torture will make her spill the secrets. Etta then bumps nose with him stating she's not interested and he in anger punches her. Thinking she's knocked unconscious, he heads off to transport the EMP to the helipad and orders Irina to keep an eye on her. As soon as he leaves, Etta asks Irina why she lets him talk to her that way and states she was just pretending to be out cold, but thanks her for trying to check in on her.
Irina states she should torture the information out of Etta to earn her commander's favor, but gets told that it seems he wouldn't care no matter what she accomplished. Etta tries to get to know her personally and learns her father hated her for being a girl. When asked why's she asking her about it, Etta states she interests him as she too has been looked down upon for her appearance. As Irina states she should bee interrogating her, Etta states she learnt about the sale of the EMP bomb from informants in Volkov's lab and denies when asked if she's an ARGUS commander. After being asked how she came to join the terrorists, Irina states she always felt as an outsider but here her skills at least were of some use.
Etta offers Irina a path out of her current life by joining A.R.G.U.S. and tells how like her she never fit in any place. She however eventually found a friend in Wonder Woman who has also saved her life, asking her to be let her be that kind of friend for her. As Irina asks where Diana is now, Alexei returns and threatens Etta to spill out her secrets or be shot. Etta requests Irina to allow her to be a friend who protects her and in turn Alexei gets killed by Irina. As the two women escape the complex together after subduing the guards, they come upon the helipad but finds themselves out of ammo as a terrorist guarding the helicopter confronts them. Etta however throws her empty gun at him, allowing Irina to knock him out.
as she open the briefcase however, Etta gets held at gunpoint by Irina who states that she'll finally be recognized by her superiors when she kills her after she has caused so much havoc in the base. Wonder Woman however soon arrives and knocks Irina out, with A.R.G.U.S. having tracked her after she opened the EMP briefcase. Diana however realizes she was trying to cultivate Irina as an asset but got betrayed instead, and apologizes for the hurt it caused her.
