Wonder Woman #9 is an issue of the series Wonder Woman (Volume 1) with a cover date of June, 1944.

Synopsis for "Evolution Goes Haywire"

Steve Trevor takes his niece to the zoo, where the toddler promptly crawls halfway into the gorilla enclosure. The gorilla within quickly grabs and cradles her, and when the enclosure is surrounded by yelling men pulling guns she breaks out and flees while protecting the girl. A zookeeper informs that the gorilla is named Giganta and her own baby had recently died. As Wonder Woman and Steve track the gorilla Professor Zool is putting on a rather bizarre lecture in which he talks about how he's created a device which can speed up evolution and turn an ape into a man.

Zool's lecture is interrupted by Giganta, who seems to be quietly watching until the Holliday Girls try to attack her to get Steve's niece, at which point she tosses Zool at them and Wonder Woman forces her to release the girl. Once Giganta is restrained Steve tries to argue that she's dangerous and must be shot since she can tear through the bars of her cage like butter, while the zookeeper insists that she is unique and worth too much money to just kill her. Zool butts in asking for her to experiment on, which the police and Steve agree to.

Zool's Evolutionizer turns Giganta into a buxom tall woman, and Giganta grabs Wonder Woman by the throat when her restraints are removed. Wonder Woman throws her attacker and Giganta lands on the machine, breaking it and setting it "backwards" so that it de-evolves all the living things around it, the humans to cavemen and the nature around for miles into prehistoric things. After a further run in with Giganta and her new tree men allies it is decided that Wonder Woman and Zool will find and repair the Evolutionizer to turn things back to normal.
