Synopsis for "Journey's End"
Gen. Masat's airstrike mercilessly batters Bana-Mighdall, provoking wave upon wave of return fire from the city's sentries. The sheer carnage distracts Wonder Woman from her own battle with Shim'Tar; as the Amazon Princess rushes to intercept the jets, she is struck from behind by her armored foe, and paralyzed by yet another poison dart.
As she crumples to the ground, Wonder Woman desperately begs the other Amazons to accept the truth: that she had only tried to save them. At that very instant, Hermes uses his divine power to repel the jets, forcing Gen. Masat to order a complete withdraw. Such heroism amazes much of Bana-Mighdall, but only enrages Faruka, who rashly attacks Hermes - an act that finally exposes her as a treacherous megalomaniac, whom Batiri and several other Amazons execute on the spot.
Faruka's death sends Shim'Tar on a blind, seemingly unstoppable rampage - until Hermes, with the last of his strength, orders Wonder Woman to catch Shim'Tar in the Lasso of Truth. When Wonder Woman does so, the lasso pours Gaea's rage into the stolen girdle empowering Shim'Tar, crystallizing Gaea's total rejection of Bana-Mighdall. Without such divine favor sustaining it, the whole city vanishes in an explosion of sand, leaving only Wonder Woman, Hermes, and Dr. Minerva behind.
Some time later, Gen. Masat's forces recover all three survivors from the desert. Though still puzzled by much of her experience in Egypt, Wonder Woman is elated to be reunited with Julia and Steve, especially after finding the surviving girdle attached to her lasso; in contrast, Hermes returns to America more exhausted and dependent on Steve than ever (much to Etta Candy's displeasure). Meanwhile, the still-comatose Dr. Minerva - disavowed by both Egyptian and British officials - is quietly committed to Arkham Asylum.
After several days of rest, Wonder Woman flies to Themyscira, where she returns the girdle to its rightful owner: a shocked, but quickly overjoyed, Queen Hippolyte.
