Synopsis for "War-Torn, Chapter 2"

The Amazons of Themyscira have been plagued by attacks by the Stymphalian Birds, and they are beginning to wonder why they have seen their Queen, Diana less often than these attacks have been occurring.

Elsewhere, a dark sorceress requires a dark price to see a certain magic done. At the will of Hippolyta's sister, Derinoe, her daughter gives up her child to the sorceress. The elder woman explains that they have no other choice but to make this sacrifice as the witch raises her blade.

While sparring, Superman warns Diana that she needs to talk about what's on her mind instead of fighting it out. Her mother Hippolyta was killed when the rains on Themyscira washed her away. She had been turned to clay by a vengeful Hera, and now she was gone. He begs her not to shut him out, and in response, she explodes that she killed her mentor, lost her mother, nearly lost him, and became God of War at the risk of her personality - and she is sure the breaking point is past. Much as she misses her mother, she has no time to grieve.

The sorceress carries the child away, having killed the crone's daughter instead, as the remains of Hippolyta's body boil in her cauldron.

Afterward, Diana finally returns to Themyscira to face the council of Amazons. Her aunt warns that her unseemly obsession with humanity will no longer be tolerate - and she must choose between her people and her adopted people. They call on her to either remain on Paradise Island permanently, to rule, or abdicate her throne to a more committed ruler. Diana responds that she cannot give up the responsibilities to humanity, but Derinoe reminds that she still has a responsibility to the Amazons. The longer she refuses to embrace her rule, the more vulnerable the Amazons appear to their enemies.

The council's hearing is interrupted, though, by yet another attack, and Diana leads the charge against the birds, but after fighting them off, she learns that the Stymphalian Birds are Ares' pets, drawn to the home of their new master - another neglected responsibility. Diana admits that it is up to her to make things right, but she is interrupted by Justice League news of another missing village, and is required once again by the world of men. As Diana leaves, Derinoe wonders aloud whether Diana is prepared to live with the consequences of these choices.

With the ritual complete, the sorceress calls on Donna Troy to rise and take her rightful place among the Amazons.
