World's Finest #116 is an issue of the series World's Finest (Volume 1) with a cover date of March, 1961.

Synopsis for Superman and Batman: "The Creature From Beyond"

While out on patrol, Batman and Robin stop at a diner for a bite to eat. To their surprise they find Vance Collins, a former con that Batman and Robin busted years ago, working the counter. Collins tells Batman and Robin that he's gone straight and thanks them for showing him the errors of his way.

Meanwhile, just out of Earth's atmosphere, Superman spots a meteor that is about to collide with a space satellite. When it does, he notes a strange energy beam lance out from the impact toward the Earth's surface before he speeds off to stop the debris from harming anyone on the planet below.

A short time later in Gotham City, Batman and Robin arrive at the Wonderland amusement park and stop to check out its newest exhibit the "Playground of Giants" which displays animatronic statues of legendary giants, like Paul Bunyan. To their surprise, what appears to be an actor dressed up as the monster form a new film titled "The Creature From Beyond" arrives for what people think is a publicity stunt. However, Batman and Robin realize it has more sinister goals in mind when it robs the ticket booth. Even more fantastic is that when they try to stop the creature it demonstrates its super-powers. Even when Superman arrives to stop the creature, the Man of Steel proves no match for it and the so-called Creature from Beyond manages to escape.

When searching the area, Batman, Superman and Robin spot a billboard for "The Creature From Beyond" which has the image of the creature cut out of it. When attempting to stop the Creature on it's next attempted robbery, Batman and Robin and Superman fail to stop it once more. Finding that the creature has hired humans to help it, Commissioner Gordon has the police begin a search of known felons to try and found out who is working for the Creature. When they search the home of Vance Collins, they find the stolen loot and he is promptly arrested despite his protests of innocence. When Collins asks Batman and Robin to vouch for his innocence, the Dynamic Duo tell him they'll look into it.

When Vance is locked in a prison cell he still maintains his innocence, but suddenly he transforms into the Creature and breaks out of jail. The creature teams up with the Jackson mob to commit more crimes, but Batman and Robin track the Creature to the mob's hideout. There the creature changes back into Vance who is horrified to learn that he is really the creature. When the Dynamic Duo arrive, Vance transforms into the creature again and helps his minions escape. When they return to another safe house, the Creature changes back into Vance who makes a break for it.

The Jackson mob is confident that all they have to do is wait for Vance to transform into the creature again and head to their next job to rob the "Treasure Ship," a unique jewelry shop shaped like a pirate ship. When they arrive on the scene, they see what they believe is the creature until Batman, Robin and Superman suddenly arrive and arrest them. Vance pulls off his mask and explains that he was transforming into the creature after a strange ray passed through the billboard advertising the movie and struck him, and that after turning himself over to the authorities and being examined by Superman, it was deduced that it's effects would wear off after 20 hours.

Later when explaining the story to the press, Vance jokingly tells them that he intends to keep his costume to help Batman, Robin, and Superman fight crime in the future.
