Synopsis for Superman and Batman: "The New Terrific Team!"
Under the influence of a pair of living jewels, Robin and Jimmy Olsen declare their independence from Superman and Batman and begin working as a team of their own. The young heroes manage to outmatch their mentors as crime-fighters, but their methods seem to be different. Batman and Superman soon realize that the young heroes have started to claim rewards for every criminal they capture. When Batman and Superman try to talk sense into their former partners, the young ones threaten to reveal the heroes' secret identities if they continue meddling in their affairs.
Upon further investigation, Superman finally realizes that the gems that the young heroes have adapted as part of their new uniforms, are a souvenir he retrieved from an strange planet. Superman and Batman travel to this planet, where they confirm their suspicions: the jewels have a conscience and can manipulate humans. After Batman is exposed to the jewels Superman deduces that the jewels on Earth are using Robin and Jimmy in order to create a spaceship that would return them to their planet.
Batman and Superman arrive in time to stop Robin and Jimmy from leaving Earth and Superman separates the jewels from the boys' bodies by using a special machine. Once free from the jewels' influence, Jimmy and Robin can't recall much of the past events, but they seem to have returned to normal. While Batman informs them about their strange adventure, Superman returns the jewels to their home planet.
Appearing in Aquaman and Aqualad: "The Underwater Olympics!"
- Bart Horval (Single appearance)
Synopsis for Aquaman and Aqualad: "The Underwater Olympics!"
This story is reprinted from Adventure Comics #277.
Aquaman and Aqualad stage an “underwater Olympics”, commanding two separate teams of sea-creatures which compete against each other in selected events. The contest seems even, with conscienceless “salvage” expert Bart Horval spying on the events in hoping of finding something from which he can profit. In the last event, Aquaman deliberately makes a detour around a bed of seaweed instead of going through it, thus keeping himself from racking up enough points to unseat Aqualad. The sea prince wins, and Bart Horval goes home. Later, Aquaman reveals only to his fish friends the real reason for his detour: a Kryptonite meteor was lying within the seaweed. If he had gone through the seaweed bed, the Kryptonite would have been revealed to Horval, who could have sold it to enemies of Superman. Instead, Aquaman's allies dump the meteor into a deep ocean trench.
