Synopsis for Superman & Batman: "The Four Billion Superman of Earth"

When a couple of aliens come to visit their "experiment" on Planet Earth, they start playing with their technology, causing troubles in Gotham City. They are subsequently greeted by Superman, who is obviously superior to them in all senses.

As Superman invites the aliens to Earth, they descent in peace, but they become jealous of Superman's ability to fly, which is something they don't possess. The aliens then trick Superman into going to their spaceship, where they attack the Man of Steel and place him in a special machine that would drain his flying ability so that they can use it instead.

When Batman learns of the trouble, he gathers Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane and Alfred Pennyworth and they go to the aliens' spaceship, where they trick them into believing that every person on Earth have superpowers like Superman, but they simply choose not to use them. The trick works and the aliens decide to leave Earth, fearing that they might cause the wrath of a world filled with superpowered beings. After the alien threat is gone, Superman is released and he shares a laugh with his friends.

Notes

  • The letter page of this issue is replaced with an editorial note explaining the last issue's advertising about World's Finest turning into a montly regular 40 cents book instead of a bi-monthly dollar comic. As it turns out, the higher-ups at DC decided to switch the format after low selling reports and assigned Julius Schwartz as the new editor of WFC; which explains why some of the stories featured in this and the previous issues are edited by him. However, a last minute report indicated that WFC was selling much better than initially thought and Jack C. Harris was reinstated as editor of WFC, which was left as a dollar comic, even after the change was advertised the previous issue.
  • Captain Marvel's story is reprinted in Shazam!: The World's Mightiest Mortal Vol. 3.
