Synopsis for Superman & Batman: "Beasts of Plague!"
In Gotham City, Batman captures a criminal smuggling domestic animals to Metropolis, but the thugs refuse to give an answer about their business. Meanwhile in Metropolis, Clark Kent learns that one of his co-workers has gone missing and goes looking for him as Superman. When he finds Ed Anders, Superman realizes that he has been infected with some kind of deadly virus and after leaving Ed's dead body at S.T.A.R. Labs, he goes to Gotham to ask for Batman's detective skills.
Batman and Superman investigate the source of the virus and they learn that it is mainly transmitted from animals to humans. Knowing that there is a connection between the smuggling criminals he captured earlier, Batman interrogates the thugs and learns the location where they were supposed to deliver the animals.
Meanwhile, Lois Lane has gone looking for Anders and after following her clues to an abandoned warehouse, Lois is kidnapped by some criminals and taken to their boss, the mad scientist responsible for developing the deadly plague. The man tells Loise that his main concern is the ever growing population and that he plans to release his plague to control the human growth, killing millions. Superman and Batman find the warehouse in time to rescue Lois and stop the evil scheme. In the confrontation, the mad scientist is exposed to his own deadly plague and even after he is taken to S.T.A.R. Labs, the scientists cannot find a cure. Superman inhales the deadly plague and releases it in the sun, ending the threat of such a dangerous weapon.
After the case is solved, Lois decides to give the credits of the whole story to the late Ed Anders.

Synopsis for Captain Marvel, Jr.: "The Menace! of the Moon-Tree!"
Freddy Freeman heads to the basement of Mrs. Wagner's Boarding House to find Prof. Edgewise has created a gigantic seed from genetically engineering some plants. He says that he's going to use it to build a “bridge” to the Moon (since lunar travel is otherwise cost-effective) and goes to bury it somewhere with plenty of space in the countryside, packing up a lunar rover he's made and a spacesuit… but notes he only has enough for himself. Prof. Edgewise soon buries the huge seed in a distant acre of farmland and waits a few minutes for it to sprout, creating what is certainly the world's largest tree. Freddy, naturally worried that his inventions will yet again spell trouble for humanity, calls CAPTAIN MARVEL to become Captain Marvel, Jr. Soon enough, an airliner crashes into the extensive canopy of the Moon-Tree, forcing Junior to shove it back out to safety while Prof. Edgewise puts on his spacesuit and drives his rover up the Moon-Tree's trunk. Junior soon finds that satellites are also getting caught in the upper branches of the Moon-Tree and Prof. Edgewise finds that the tree is also growing more branches than he can easily dodge, which ends up ramping him into the cold vacuum of space. Junior flies him back down to Earth and shows him that the Moon-Tree is now destroying the land and tearing up the highway with its gigantic roots and, if it keeps growing, it'll wrap around the Earth and just destroy most of it. He soon finds the Moon-Tree taking root on the Moon too and starts to go to tear it out of the ground… but finds it already has and promptly throws it into the Sun. He is astonished to find a small boy (named Jack) cut down the mighty tree and Junior quickly digs up the giant stump to also throw into the Sun, finding Jack is gone when he returns and Prof. Edgewise is musing quietly about how to build a hyper-space bridge to get to the Moon instead… Junior wonders about just who that Jack was...
