Hawkwoman appears to prevent a violent confrontation between Hawkman and Hyathis, but her efforts are futile as Batman and Superman get the situation under control without much need of violence. When Hyathis is removed from power, the Tahagarians try to convince Hawkman to become their new leader, but the Winged Avenger has the idea to implement the democracy he has learned on Earth. Synopsis for Captain Marvel: "The Power of Darkness!"
Dora Keane is a young woman who wants to become more powerful than any other and performs a Satanic ritual to summon the Prince of Darkness. He asks that, in exchange for giving her powers, she must smite the Marvel Family, which she's fine with trying out. Satan blasts her with energy, turning her into the Darkling, who can cloak herself in impenetrable darkness and fly, noting that though Ibac, Sabbac and Master Man II failed him, surely she will not… She soon flies off to find the Marvel Kids returning from an ice show (as Satan has told her their secret identities) and bathes them in darkness, which the magic lightning cannot pierce through! She says that the darkness now spreads out to 100 miles2 and darkness now shall rule. Suddenly, a mysterious Viking man runs in to pick up Mary Batson and carries her into the sunlight where she can call SHAZAM to become Mary Marvel. However, she quickly finds that Darkling's powers make her invulnerable and inhumanly strong while in the dark as the boys offer she help them get out so they can join the fight. Mary Marvel, correctly says that she knows they won't hit a woman and that this is her battle, using the Wisdom of Minerva to keep quiet and fly off to the Rock of Eternity. The Wizard Shazam tells her that the light that sines in the darkness can overcome it and that the man who saved her before… was Thjalfi, friend to the Norse god of thunder and “swiftest of men!” He points out that he didn't summon Thjalfi though and that whoever did has sworn the God of Storms to secrecy. Thjalfi leads Mary Marvel to the peak of the Rock of Eternity where there is a “living light” with a “someone” within it that no mortal eye can see the true form of. She picks up some of the living light in her cape and unleashes it on Darkling, which seems to entirely destroy her (or at least send her away for some time.) Later, Mary wonders who did send Thjalfi to assist her and they hope to get to the bottom of it… and soon.
