With the dawn of the Age of Wonders, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman helped bring a greater peace to the world, but still governments kept their armed forces in the event that they would need to strike at their foes on land, sea, or air. However, when Steppenwolf, the Apokiliptian strategist, struck with his army, the governments of the world united their armed forces to combat this new threat. After a bloody conflict that destroyed whole nations, Steppenwolf was beaten, and went into hiding. The World Army remained, to protect the world in the event that he resurfaced.
The deaths of the Wonders of the World was a blow to morale, but the World Army was soon able to recruit or create a secret roster of men and women who had powers to rival the original Wonders. Furthermore, as soon as the war was over, they began work on the Red Files - a family of super-soldier and super-weapon projects. This collection of remarkable people would fight the battles the regular soldiers never could.
Invasion of Dherain
After the debut of the Green Lantern and the Flash, the World Army's efforts to capture or recruit superhumans became more public. But with a fresh assault by Steppenwolf, the World Army decided to form an alliance with its superhuman rivals.
The Wonders would soon make contact with Steppenwolf's Hunger Dogs and were quickly defeated by them. After the Wonders were defeated the Hunger Dogs for some unknown reason left the remaining team alive and went to the aid of Steppenwolf. The World Army began to lose after the Hunger Dogs entered the battle. Stormy Foster was soon killed during the Invasion by Hunger Dog Brutaal who flew into their airship and destroyed it. The Invasion ended in the World Army's defeat and the death of Steppenwolf by Brutaal who revealed himself to be Superman.
Fall of the World Army
After the failed invasion of Dherain, the World Army organized a mass retreat of its forces to the Arkham base. The retreat soon proved futile when Superman arrived at the base to finish off the remaining World Army's forces. The World Army attempted to fight off Superman by send Doctor Fate to fight him, but he was quickly defeated.
