The World of Krypton was a storytelling trope that originated during the Silver Age era of publication. The title was used to describe a featurette which typically served as a back-up story in issues of Action Comics and Superman. "World of Krypton" stories took place in the planet's past, prior to Krypton's destruction. Key figures featured in these stories involved Superman's father Jor-El, his mother Lara Lor-Van, the Kryptonian Science Council and the criminals who frequently occupied the Phantom Zone. It was not uncommon for Superman to participate in these stories as well, usually by way of some time-traveling mechanism.
"World of Krypton" was also the title of two different limited series. The first World of Krypton limited series, was originally slated for issues #104–106 of Showcase (Volume 1) and was timed to coincide with the release of the Superman movie. A second World of Krypton limited series was published in 1987 as one of three "World of..." titles that re-established Superman's origin following the continuity reboot after Crisis on Infinite Earths, along with World of Smallville and World of Metropolis. In 2009, a twelve-issue maxiseries World of New Krypton was published, taking its cue from Kandor coming out of Superman: New Krypton.
