Synopsis for "Breaking"
Power Girl spent years trying to avoid Cadmus Island, and now she is breaking in to it. The island's security had prevented her for some time from sensing what was going on there, but nothing could stop her from hearing the screams of her best friend, Helena Wayne. Breaking in through the laundry room, Karen steals a uniform in the hopes that it will give her access, and burns her own uniform. The explosion she causes draws the attention of the OMACS, allowing Karen to sneak further into the facility without being noticed.
Using her X-Ray vision, she spots a familiar face in Tanya Spears, unsure if she can trust her. She decides to avoid her, instead turning her attention to what lies on the other side of the compounds other walls. Unfortunately, what she sees there demonstrate the horrific lengths to which Cadmus will go to "study" the super-humans. Her woozy response leaves her vulnerable, and one of the other residents, dressed in a similar jumpsuit, notices her and warns her to get out of sight before the OMACS discover her.
She turns around to see Hawkgirl being escorted into the prison, and grimly reflects on how gaunt and weak the warrior has become. Her distraction means she is surprised when Deathstroke demands to know who she is and how she breached the island. When she takes too long to answer, he tries to thrust his sword through her throat, and it bends. Switching to guns, he finds them ineffective as well. Karen comments that she is someone who hasn't sold her soul as he has. As she prepares to beat Deathstroke to a pulp, she is distracted by the voice of Fifty Sue, whose temper brings with it a violent outburst.
Karen's cover is blown, and she decides to abandon her rescue effort for now, but only if she can escape Fifty Sue's onslaught. Witnessing the girl's attack, Tanya finally steps forward, explaining that she will stand for no more of this sadism. Science, she says, was never meant to be perverted in this way. Unfortunately, Sue's rage vents just as violently against her, and there is significant collateral damage that vaporizes surrounding innocents instantly. Sadly, she gives collapses, and both she and Karen are gathered up and dumped into a prison cell, where Helena is waiting. Upon seeing them, Helena realizes that there must be no hope for them to escape, if Kara can be captured too.
