Synopsis for Mary Marvel, the World's Mightiest Girl!: "The Reign of the Bats!"
In an isolated mansion on the edge of a swamp, Harley Von Elstyne is studying with his butler Erik about how there seem to be natural balance of antagonism between animals. He offers if the balance were thrown off, who knows what sort of creature may seize power as the dominant species on the planet. They decide to actively disrupt the balance of nature, which they themselves just admitted could have horrible consequences and decide to destroy natural enemies of the local bats until they create a large colony of bats. One night, Von Elstyne finds all his horses are dead and have been seemingly poisoned and presumes that one of the kinds of bats must be a venomous bat. He soon finds that the bats have killed Erik and when he goes to call the police, the bats invade and bite him to death. The phone operators are bemused entirely. Soon, the cloud of venomous bats take off for somewhere with more prey. Meanwhile, Mary Batson decides to watch a movie, but finds that the theater is full of bats! She quickly calls SHAZAM and becomes Mary Marvel, who crushes each bat personally in her hand, but finds outside there are thousands. She soon goes to City Hall to talk to Mayor O’Dwyer, who says he’s getting a Health Commissioner flown in now, who is planning to poison the bats with toxic gas. However, the airport isn’t answering and Mary Marvel takes off to find that the bats have seized control of the airport and Mary Marvel is able to release the gas personally to kill off the bats and trails it back to the Mansion of Harley Von Elstyne. Mary Marvel is suddenly attacked by Harley, who has gone mad and believes he’s a bat too now. She soon tells Mayor O’Dwyer that Von Elstyne went crazy and is now in an asylum. Mary is upset to see the movie coming out in theaters is Return of the Bat! She calls her friend Ted back to join that party after all.
