Synopsis for "Motherland, Chapter 3"
Fifteen years ago, Doctor M caught a teen orphan raiding his laboratory for pills. He hired the girl to be his security and today, he has Agent 355 and Rose Copen tied up in a luxury flat in Hong Kong. Agent 355 looses herself and fights against Tokyo, killing her, but leaving herself severely wounded.
In another room in the building, Doctor M explains to his daughter Allison Mann that he has been able to successfully clone replicas of her for years, gestating them in volunteers who have brought at least eight siblings of her to term. When he learned that she was doing similar work, he injected a disease vector into Ampersand, hoping to set back her work, but he got confused with a different monkey and was accidentally delivered to Yorick Brown,[1] giving the two of them immunity to the gendercide plague.
Four years ago, when the first clone was birthed by Ming, the gendercide took place, and Doctor M believes that his work is somehow responsible for causing the mass extinction event, just as Allison believed that her medical tampering did. He believes that a morphogentic field connects all life on Earth and the act of viably cloning a human and bringing her to term caused evolution to spontaneously make males redundant. Doctor M and Allison debate theories until he drugs her to allow the two men to have time to talk.
Doctor M initially wanted Ampersand back to save men, but he found that women were making progress without them and he thinks it is time for the two of them to die.
