Synopsis for "Sons of Dawn: Gladiator and Sons"
The very much alive Hugo Danner is skeptical that he is the father of Arn Munro. Arn is left upset over Hugo faking his death, in which his harsh words thrown at Hugo gets him into a superpower brawl with the Accala man Xtoh. Hugo breaks up the fight and is now convinced Arn is his son. He then leads Arn and Georgia to his abode with his "Sons of Dawn" while telling them why he faked his death and had been living in Maple White Land.
When Hugo joined the expedition to the Yucatan in 1921, he was inspired by Professor Hardin to consider creating a "new race of titans" that dwelled far from normal people who naturally fear and hate them. He then faked his death by fixing a Maya corpse to make it look like it had been struck down in a thunderstorm before traveling to Brazil, where he learned rumors of Maple White Land's existence. He recruited the surviving porters who journeyed in Professor Challenger's first expedition to guide him to the plateau to seek rough diamonds in order to finance his plan. He soon encountered the Accalas, and from there, he changed his mind and decided the Accalas to be the progenitors of his new race. He impressed them with his superhuman abilities in which they treated him like a god. Hugo lived among them and used his father's notes to recreate the superhuman formula to inoculate a number of pregnant Accala women, which they gave birth to children who proved to be almost everything he hoped to be. Upon seeing his Sons of Dawn growing up, Hugo remembered his high school sweetheart, Anna Blake, and he returned to his Colorado home to enjoy a one-night affair with Blake. However, Hugo realized that while Blake was his first love, she would never be his true mate; he wrote a letter telling her so before returning to Maple White Land.
Hugo never realized until now that he impregnated Blake to give birth to Arn because he believed himself to be sterile, in which he had made certain of that. After returning to Maple White Land, Hugo raised the Sons of Dawn apart from the Accalas to prevent the superhuman adolescents from dominating their non-superhuman peers. Hugo is also aware of the Second World War as a few months ago, a Nazi expedition ventured into the plateau and eventually came into conflict with Hugo and the Sons of Dawn. The Nazis were chased away, and many were killed by the prehistoric wildlife. Though some did survive, in which they managed to escape with a photograph of Hugo that Arn now holds. Arn in turns tells Hugo about the Nazi superhuman Ubermensch who claimed that he got his powers from Abednego Danner's formula.
The group reaches the abode and Arn and Georgia are granted a place to rest. But that night, the Sons of Dawn led by Xtoh attack Arn and buried him up to his neck in boulders. Hugo is also similarly trapped and he explains to Arn that Xtoh and the others have grown tired staying on the plateau, and incited by Arn and Georgina's presence, they have finally decided to leave their home and conquer the outside world. Xtoh takes Georgina as his unwilling mate and he and the Sons of Dawn make their leave, heading for Rioguay's capital city.
