Yvette Verne is a marine biologist and expert on cognitive and behavioral science.
History
Yvette grew up on the Bay of Biscay in Western France. Her father was a fisherman who loved the sea and was proud of her when she was accepted into UC Berkley to study marine biology. The year before she left for college she saw her father fall into the sea from his fishing boat in a storm. She tried to rescue him but was unable to and he drowned.
She was chosen to be part of the crew of the Andromeda, a top-secret experimental submarine sent to investigate a crashed extra-terrestrial ship at Point Nemo and attempt first contact with the occupant.[1] While the crew were investigating the crashed ship, a bridge crumbled beneath Yvette and her shipmate Ivanov and they fell down a shaft. At the bottom they found Aquaman, who Yvette recognised as the "King Under the Sea" from her father's stories. Aquaman led them out of the craft and told them they needed to leave, as the "ship" was a prison created to hold an ancient evil known as the Darkworld.[2]
The crew overloaded the submarine's experimental gravity drive to create a miniature black hole, which sucked in the entity. Yvette and a pirate known as Black Manta were the only survivors. Aquaman rescued her from being dragged into the event horizon and carried her to a village on the east coast of Russia.[3]
