Zack Snyder's Justice League, also known as The Snyder Cut, is a 2021 director's cut of the 2017 movie Justice League. Snyder had departed from that film, which was finished by Joss Whedon who made drastic changes to the script and did extensive reshoots. This director's cut features previously unused footage as well as new material, and is twice the length of the original release. It was exclusively released on streaming services, and the story is divided into multiple chapters.
A black-and-white version called Zack Snyder's Justice League: Justice is Gray was released on March 25, 2021. Although having the same runtime, it includes an alternate version of Joker and Batman talking in the Knightmare timeline.[1]

Notes
- According to the director Zack Snyder, the film is separate from the continuity of the DC Extended Universe, but represents its own continuity and fits in with the plot of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.[2]
- A week before the release of his cut, Snyder also confirmed that the cinematic version, which was directed by Joss Whedon, is still canon for Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc., while his version is not.[3]
- Unlike in the theatrical release, Mera's father Nereus is stated to have died before the events of the film. This contradicts the plot of the film Aquaman, where he is still alive. It also depicts non-royal Atlanteans as being able to breathe out of water without issue.
- The film is dedicated to Autumn Snyder, Zack's daughter who had committed suicide in 2017, causing him to step down from shooting the film originally.
Trivia
- Zack Snyder makes a cameo in the film's beginning as a customer of the coffee shop Lois Lane visits.
- Marc McClure, who portrayed Jimmy Olsen in the Donnerverse Superman films as well as Supergirl, also makes a cameo as the Metropolis police officer called Jerry.
- The headline in the Daily Planet newspaper in the beginning states "Security Bank of Manhattan Seeks New Architect". This is a reference to the film The Fountainhead, in which the protagonist Howard Roark was chosen as the architect for "Security Bank of Manhattan", but fired when he refused to modify his plans.
- The sinking ship "Cortlandt", whose occupant Aquaman saves in the film, is a reference to "Cortlandt Homes", a building project Roark was working on in the novel The Fountainhead, upon which the movie "The Fountainhead" is based, written by Ayn Rand.
- A billboard for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a charity that Zack and fans of his version have campaigned for after Autumn's death, appears when Bruce Wayne drives away with Barry Allen.
- The truck that Iris West's car collides with says "Gard'ner Fox" on its sides, a homage to Gardner Fox, who created both The Flash and the Justice League.
- The vandalized Robin suit from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice appears in the background of the Batcave during Cyborg's Knightmare vision of Darkseid and Superman.
- Snyder originally intended to include John Stewart and Kilowog in the end scene during which they would have paid Bruce Wayne a visit. Wayne T. Carr was cast in the role of John Stewart and the scene was filmed, but the studio eventually told Snyder to cut the appearances of both Green Lanterns. The scene was then replaced with Martian Manhunter's visit to Bruce Wayne's lake house.[4]
- An earlier version of the scene would have shown Tomar-Re accompanying Kilowog instead of Stewart.[5] Artist Jerad Marantz designed Snyder's version of Kilowog, although the character ultimately only made a cameo appearance in the finished film, as his corpse is briefly seen during a Knightmare vision.[6]
- Near the end of the film, the tank-like Batmobile from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns briefly appears in a scene, though named the "War Machine" by Snyder. In the same scene, Batman apprehends a number of criminals in the Gotham City junkyard. They wear visors and are members of the Mutants, which was later also confirmed by the film's storyboard artist Jay Oliva.[7][8]
- Arkham Asylum is said to have been built in 1974, a reference to its debut in 1974's Batman #258.
