Synopsis for "Come Together; I"

Zatanna is constantly haunted by bad dreams of her mother, pleading for help and she wonders if the dreams have any connection with her decision to stop using magic and start living as a regular person.

Zatanna has relocated to San Francisco, she has a job and is trying to maintain a relationship with a man called Ron, but she finds it hard to be open about her life with him. As to cope with the daily life, Zatanna has joined a volunteer effort with an old friend called Marsha, who knows Zatanna's real abilities and suggests her to return to her magical ways. Zatanna finds the suggestions tempting, but she decides to avoid returning to that path.

However, the dreams keep haunting her and what's worse, Zatanna realizes that the number of creatures from the mystical world have recently increased in the city. Concerned about these strange events, Zatanna contacts Tannarak, hoping to learn more about the issues.

Tannarak reveals that a magical nexus is forming in the area, luring creatures from the astral plane to gather. Without a warning, Tannarak attacks Zatanna and a demon joins him against her. Zatanna uses her magic to destroy the demon and incapacitate Tannarak, barely escaping from the place. However, once outside, she is utterly shocked to come across the image of her mother.

Notes

  • In this series, Zatanna speaks her incantations as a whole backward sentence, as opposed to the traditional word-by-word backward spells she performed since her first appearance. This is most likely an editorial and continuity mistake.
