Synopsis for "Dellup Rednu"

A long time ago, a young magician playing with magic was suddenly pulled into a vortex until he was rescued by a blonde lady, who took him to the Oblivion Bar and told him that if he ever got lost, he could return to the Bar by just thinking about oblivion itself. The man and the woman went their separate ways, but legend stated that they wouldn't remain apart for too long.

In the present, Blue Devil is serving drinks to Detective Chimp and Madame Xanadu at the at the empty Oblivion Bar. Blue Devil observes that a new bar over in San Francisco scooped up all their customers. Suddenly, Zatanna comes crashing through the Bar's door and her friends take her to a room upstairs. Zatanna explains she had to escape to the Bar after getting stabbed by the Lady White's sword, which is still diminishing her power and affecting her spellcasting. She tried to remove it but whenever she tries, she is tormented by visions of her friends and people she failed to save. Refusing to elaborate any further, Zatanna returns home and her friends decide to help her, whether Zatanna wants to or not.

Meanwhile, the Lady White and a scared Adam travel to the Crimson Palace, a nightclub owned by Brother Night. Adam says that he has done as Brother Night told him and a pleased Brother Night agrees to reward him.

At Shadowcrest, Zatanna continues her attempts to remove the sword from her chest until morning. She decides to visit Adam and interrogate him over his association with the Lady White. She goes to his apartment, only to find Blue Devil standing in front of her. He says that whatever Zatanna has to do, she doesn't have to do it alone and he wants to repay her for her help when he first wore the demon suit. Zatanna reluctantly agrees and they enter Adam's apartment, only to find it filled with piles of broken flesh. Zatanna and Blue Devil use weapons from the Oblivion Bar to tear through the flesh and find Adam's emaciated corpse tied to a chair. He has been dead for weeks, which means the Adam in league with the Lady White must be an impostor.

Suddenly, a TV screen on the other side of the apartment lights up and shows Lady White dancing with a man that looks vaguely familar to Zatanna, who binds Blue Devil with astral chains and jumps into the screen. She plans to stop whatever the Lady White is planning without risking any more people close to her. The realm Zatanna has entered looks like an elegant club and she tries to get past the multiple patrons enjoying the party while also fighting the pain caused by the sword. She finally reaches the man the Lady White was dancing with and takes a good look at his face: it's Bruce Wayne.

  • The Crimson Palace club from San Francisco and the party of the magical beings is a reference to San Francisco's Bewitched club and the events of The Books of Magic #2 where Zatanna attended a similar party at the Bewitched while escorting Tim Hunter.
