During World War II, Zazarstan was occupied by the Japanese Army.
History
In the early 1940s, occupied Zazarstan was ruled by a puppet king, Grodoro, who reinstated the ancient, and long-forbidden, worship of Talpolo, the God of Revenge. This was deliberate policy, decreed in order to break down the spirit of the populace. Hundreds would gather to kneel before the doors of Talpolo's mighty temple, and Talpolo's idol, atop a disguised tractor, would roll forth and crush them by the hundreds.
In 1945, an American secret agent and his valet put a sudden stop to this practice, by boarding and stealing the tractor and steering it into the nearby river. They were captured and dragged into Talpolo's Temple to be ritually murdered, but turned the tables on their captors, and used explosives to destroy the Idol of Talpolo. This provoked an instant rebellion among the knife-wielding Zazarstani people, who rallied around their former ruler, Judar, and overran a Japanese position. Soon the occupiers were driven out of Zazarstan.
