Zollo was a robot, built by the Blackhawks.

History

Some time before 1957, in an early campaign against Killer Shark, the Blackhawks had built a super robot, called "Zollo." This robot had a mechanical memory, looked human, and could disguise itself as different humans. The robot had some time ago infiltrated Killer Shark's mob, and gotten lost amidst a melee. Apparently Zollo had just kept on infiltrating mobs, in different disguises, because that's what it had been programmed to do. And inevitably, Zollo acting as an undercover squealer, had ended up among the imprisoned population of Spider Web's illegal super prison, the Black Palace. Here an imprisoned population of double-crossers and back-stabbers labored to produce illicit arms for the underworld.

It was in the Black Palace, in 1957, that Zollo again encountered the Blackhawks, and it remembered them. Surreptitiously the robot helped them to escape. Then in mid-battle, Blackhawk rebuilt part of Zollo's torso as a makeshift acetylene welding torch. This enabled the Blackhawks to make their escape from the Black Palace. The team decided to take Zollo back with them to Blackhawk Island, and put it in the Blackhawk Museum.

Notes

  • Everything that is known about Zollo is revealed in the last three panels of the last page of the first story in Blackhawk #116. It is described in that story as having appeared in an earlier adventure, but Zollo has not appeared before.
